Is this LR version 1.3.1? If not, upgrade and so endeavour again -- at that place were some improved catalog repair tools included with ane.3.
If this is i.3.i, then that'due south a bit of a bummer... I don't have any skilful suggestions.

As it stands at present, when I open Lightroom it opens up my backup catalog as if it were merely the principal catalog. Obviously, this is not what I desire.
Is this solely because information technology is running in your backup location rather than the live location on your bulldoze? If that is the example then you lot can copy the itemize, previews and Lightroom's Backup folder to the live location. First, I would move the corrupt live catalog and previews folder somewhere else in instance you ever desire them again.
The .lock file is created past Lightroom when it is writing to the database and should not be when you copy the files. Make sure Lightroom is closed and the lock file is gone.
Once that is done, hold down the Control key (Cmd on the Mac I believe) and start Lightroom. When presented with the Select Catalog dialog, permit go of the command key. Brand sure the catalog location is pointing to the (new) live catalog and check the "Ever load ..." box. It would be a practiced idea to cheque the "Exam integrity ..." box at this point likewise.

Sorry to hear it'southward a disaster that brings you to the forum.
Before you panic, at that place is a guy at Adobe who's had great success in rescuing corrupted catalogs. I'll PM you his address in a 2nd.
When you say you lot've tried importing into another itemize, did y'all try the whole catalog in 1 become, or doing it in small chunks. Minor chunks unremarkably works all-time, if you oasis't tried that already!

Aida, welcome. I'm a Windows user, so not familiar with Time Auto.
In theory, you'll want to locate the almost recent *.lrcat file, in the backup location. The actual filename should correspond the proper noun y'all've given the itemize, by default Lightroom two Itemize.lrcat
Once you locate the file, you can simply double-click it to open it in Lr. If information technology'southward contempo enough, there you get. It's possible that the well-nigh recent backups are likewise corrupt, since Time Motorcar only backs up the files (I assume). If there are chronological backups, work your fashion dorsum til you detect one that works.
Using the double-click method to open the file has a hidden gotcha'. Since Lr is ordinarily set to open the most recently used catalog, your backup file becomes the nigh recently used. If/when, you're satisfied the backup is OK, make sure to copy the operation backup copy to your normal Lr catalog location.
If you're on the verge of losing lots of work, let the states know, and we tin likely steer you lot to someone who may be able to repair the catalog.

If it's the *.lrcat file, you don't import it. You open information technology. Just double click on it in Finder, or navigate to information technology from Lr's File > Open Catalog menu.
If that's non information technology, I think we'll need to ask more than detailed questions.

I'd go with Brad on this too.
